.. He was buried in St. Basile, New Brunswick. In July 1783, Major Wilfred Studholme, military commander of Fort Howe at St. John, sent a commission to examine the region of the Upper St. John River and report on the state of the colonization in that part of the province. The report, preserved in the archives of New Brunswick, indicated the exact condition of the little colony of Ecoupag. Founded in 1768, it was the most flourishing of the Acadian settlements. It had 61 families and a total of 357 souls. The documents note that all the heads of the families served the government during the Anglo-American War. Among them, Olivier CYR and his brothers Pierre and Jean-Baptiste. Olivier CYR and his second wife, Madeleine Thibodeau, had no children. (DC0016 Early Acadians-horman)
