Marie BOURGEOIS was born about 1652/53 in Port-Royal, New France, Acadia. She died on 2 Mar 1741 in Beaubassin, Acadia. She was buried on 3 Mar 1741 in Beaubassin Cemetery, Acadia. Marie BOUGEOIS and Pierre Cyr settled in the area of Beaubassin, known as Bourgeois Colony. There is some question as to whether her surname might not have been spelled "Bourgoise". At the census of 1680, her three sons by Pierre CYR were listedunder the name "Cire". Old documents use several spellings for the family name, including: Cire, Cyre, Sir, Sire, Syre, and Cyr. (Massignon, p.50). The census also notes that she had remarried Germain Girouard, who as noted, was among Jacques Bourgeois's sons-in-law. Pierre's widow gave birth to three other children with her husband, Girouard, whom she had married at Beaubassin on June 9, 1680. In 1686, she was a widow again and left with five children, the oldest being 15. Marie Bourgeois, the mother of the Cyr family of North America, lived to a ripe old age. Her death certificate, registered at Beaubassin, March 3, 1741, gives her as being then 88-years old. The aging document notes the presence of her sons Jean Cyre and Pierre at the burial. Guillaume, who was absent, may well have predeceased her, as his widow remarried about 1645.

The IGI Ancestral File cites Marie's second marriage (described above) to Germain Girouard (B.1657 D. 1686). His Ancestral File reference is AFN:9M7N-QV.
The IGI Ancestral File cites a third marriage for Marie Bourgeois, but to Germain Girouard's brother (B.1651) with Ancestral File reference of AFN:23ZN-STB. I believe that this third marriage never occurred.
