. He was buried on 8 Jan 1812 in St. Basile, New Brunswick. In the spring of 1785 Paul CYR, with his brothers Jacques, Francois, Firmin, Antoine, Olivier and Pierre, were among the first sixteen Acadian families to settle on the shores of St. David and St. Basile. These settlers are credited with planting the first "Acadian Cross", on the south shore of the St. John River. Today, this large wooden cross is referred to as "The Landing Site", "Cross of the Flats" or the "Acadian Cross." The crosssite is used as a point of reference from which all of the Acadian history in the St. John River Valley starts. This is the symbol by which the arrival of the deported settlers is marked. In 1787, two years aftertheir arrival, these pioneers, with devout faith in their Catholic religion, erected the first small birch bark-covered chapel in the valley,a few miles below the present-day St. David Church.
