He was the foreman of the Research Department of the United Shoe Machinery Co. in Beverly, MA at the time of William S.'s birth. In 1926 he became associated with the New England Doll and Novelty Co. of Boston, MAas a salesman and manager of their carnival operation. In the early 1930's he acquired his own small carnival operating in the Boston area. He owned a Merry-Go-Round, Ferris Wheel, and a Chair Plane to the delight of his young son who spent a number of summers collecting tickets on these rides and various other odd jobs around the midway. He remained inthe amusement business with the exception of a few years as Manager ofa 20mm ammunition manufacturing facility during WWII. He married MarieStienkrauss of Arlington, MA in 1935. They had no children.
