In her autobiography, Jessica nee GOATCHER wrote "My nice Uncle William[GOULTON], mother's eldest brother, took my brother Frank [GOATCHER] into his home and [in this manner, Frank] was brought up and well educated. I did not see him [,Frank,] again until he was about thirty years old."

TRANSCRIPT OF MANUSCRIPTS WRITTEN BY WILLIAM GOULTON
The manuscripts were written in pencil, I suspect some time in the 1900's. The following transcript is as read, the gaps are where the writing is undecipherable.
MANUSCRIPT 1
"John Goulton (sometimes corrupted and spelt Golton) was born at Wistow(I believe) near Selby York in the year 1740 (or about that time). I never heard much about him - He was my Great Grandfather.
William Goulton. Son of John Goulton was born I believe at Wistow about1790 and in about 1810 or about that time went to live at Selby, + afterwards at Stainer Hall near Selby where he died and was interred in the Abbey Church yard about 1852 aged 62 years I think - or 64 I am not sure.
William James Goulton - Son of William Goulton (my father) was born at Selby 1818 he lived in Millgate - afterwards at Flaxley Lodge afterwardsElfhole afterwards Gowthorpe afterwards "The Holmes"(where my mother died and was interred in the new cemetery at Selby) all in or near Selby

My Grandfather - William Goulton (son of John Goulton) ^ lived at Stainer Hall, Selby. G.Father had a brother living at or near Brocklesby, Lincolnshire ____ was a companion and friend of Lord Yarborough - and his ____ erected a Monument in Brocklesby to the memory of my ____ Great Uncle.
There is a family of Goultons living in Crosby in Lincolnshire - I believe are cousins of mine.
NOTE On March 30/12 I met Frederick J Mayes Esq of High ____ Billingford W Durham - who says he went to school at Lynn with some Goultons.

My Great Grandfather Banks ^ lived to a great age 100 years old or more. He had 2 sons John Banks of Howden Hall - Yorkshire and William Banksof Cherry Orchard? Selby Yorkshire.
My father William James Goulton was only son of William Goulton of Stainer Hall. My father had 4 sisters Mary married Hasper? - Elizabeth married to Owthwaite? - Grace married to Oliver Hirst - Blakelaw - Brighouse and Hannah married Joseph Padbury - Builder - Sally & Sons ______
My mother was Harriett Moore - she was left an orphan when quite a child. Her mother married Charles Connill of Selby - she had a sister married to Beal & a second marriage to Charles Melsome of Selby another sister married to Brown of East Stockworth Nr Gainsboro.
Joseph Shaw- North ______ married one of my Grandmothers sisters they had no family.
A man named Richardson of Wistow was cousin to my father.
William Goulton married Helen Jackson have 2 sons and 3 daughters 2 sons and 1 daughter married.

We also deduce that:
- Helen JACKSON was known as Nellie
- All of Uncle William's children are in the photo!
-Uncle William is William GOULTON (1844-1920)
