Hi David
You may remember we corresponded in April 2001, regarding our Preston
connections. In the Will dated 1874 of William Preston 1801-1878 he left
money to any children of his deceased daughter Elizabeth Cole who I cannot
trace. Strangely he had a daughter Elizabeth who married Charles Cole, a
farmer from Cardington in 1845. However it is NOT her as she was still alive
in 1878 and had remarried, and was mentioned in the Will separately.
I notice in the 1851 census that Sarah Elizabeth Ann Cole b 1847, the
illegimate daughter of Martha Cole, was enumerated as just Elizabeth Cole.
Do you know anything about her birth or the name of her father.?

In the spreadsheet provided by Clive Jones (source DC0132) it is easilyseen that this William PRESTON (b.1801) is the first spouse of both Elizabeth COVINGTON and Ann PROLE. But upon deeper analysis, two other wives of this William PRESTON exist. They are Susan HALL and Naomi QUENBY. Analysis of the dates indicates the following dates:
Ann PROLE b. m. 17 Dec 1820 d. 1835/36
Naomi QUENBY m. 27 Sep 1837 d. Dec 1841
Susan HALL b. 10 Feb 1847 m. 7 Jul 1945 d.1871
Elizabeth COVINGTON b. 1822 m.? d. 8 Sep 1896
Wm PRESTON d. 1878
Note that children were born to Wm PRESTON and his 3 first wives, but not to Elizabeth COVINGTON, his fourth wife. Furthermore, the only wifethat was alive when Wm PRESTON died was Elizabeth COVINGTON, which leads us to believe that she was his last wife. This assumes that he didn't divorce any of his other wives. Presumably, he married Elizabeth COVINGTON after the death of his third wife (who died in 1871).
