Michel was listed at various census as a navigator, labourer, carpenterand a farmer-fisherman. He did have a boat called a "goelette" - a schooner which was definitely capable of coastal navigation, and which wasused for commerce, not fishing according to the census of 1726. He andhis young family were listed in the census at Port Toulouse, Cape Breton in 1722, 1724 and 1726. Fort Toulouse was the second largest settlement on Cape Breton Island at this time and is known today as St. Peter's, Nova Scotia.
Michel was at Tracadie, Ile St. Jean in 1728, 1734, and 1735 with his family and his boat. In the last French census, taken in 1752, Michel, was still at Tracadie, Ile. St. Jean
Michel Bourg and his wife, Anne Boudrot were caught up with the rest ofthe Acadian nation in the expulsion. Michel was dead by 1761 and his widow, Anne was alive with their children at Nipisiguit in the area of Bathurst, New Brunswick. She is not listed in the census taken at Fort Beausejour in 1763 but seven adult children are. Her sons, Michel and Joseph arrived at Miquelon, in the Gulf of St. Lawrence on the ship "Les Deux Amis", November 11, 1765. Many Acadians fled to these islands afterthe war, but did not establish themselves there. Her daughter, Madeleine, married at Miquelon in 1766. Daughter Anne and son Pierre were counted in the census of Miquelon in 1767 and the widow Anne was counted with the orphan Jean Arsenault.
