Marguerite "Tante Blanche" THIBODEAU was born in 1738. She died on 27 Mar 1810 in St. Basile, New Brunswick, Canada. She was buried in St. Basile (CHURCH), New Brunswick. Marguerite THIBODEAU, better known as "Tante Blanche", is the namesake of the St. David Museum. During the hard times of 1796-1797 she is reported to have performed her legendary featsof bringing food and of ministering to the sick. Legend has it that, with total disregard for her own well-being, she walked from one house to another, asking those who had some food left to share with a family who had none at all. She reportedly often walked into homes where the people were too sick and weak to do any cooking. In those instances, "Tante Blanche" would take over the preparation of whatever food was
available, tend to the sick mother and, in the middle of winter, walk to the next farm house and perform the same routine.
Because of the devotedness she had shown during the great famine, "TANTE BLANCHE" was buried in the church in St. Basil. This was an unprecedented privilege. (DC0016 Early Acadians-Horman)
