Francois Monet came to Canada as a soldier in the company of captain. In addition to the surname Monet he also used the "dit" names of Laverdure and Biscornet. The Fort Chambly has figured prominently in the livesof the family. This Francois Monet was a soldier of the garrison in its early days. The fort is at the village of Chambly on the broad and rapid Riviere Richelieu. Chambly is about 40 miles north of the US / Canada border and about 10 miles east of La Prairie.
