How to Low-Res a photo (21.html)
The easiest way to reduce the resolution of a digital photo (using Windows)
is to use the IrfanView program. After you have downloaded IrfanView,
it is a very simple procedure:
To download Irfanview:
- Go to IrfanView.com
- Click on "Download"
- etc
To Low-Res a photo:
- On your Desktop, Double Click on the Red Bear icon for IrfanView
(not on the IrfanView Thumbs icon).
- Click on "File" then "Open"
- In "Look In", select the folder containing your photo.
- In "Files of Type", select "JPG/JPEG"
- Select the photo you wish to change
- Click on "Open"
- Type "S" on your keyboard
- At the bottom, select "Show options dialog"
- In "save options" dialog, select "Set File size"
- ... and set the file size to be "999" KB
- In the "Save Picture As" window, suffix "_M" to the photo name.
- ... and Click on "Save"
- It will then create your Low-Res photo
- To see your Low-Res photo, click on "File" then "Open"
The second time you reduce a photo, many of the options will be saved,
and you won't need to redo them.
A small (2 megapixel) file will take a few seconds to reduce.
... A 25 megapixel file will take 75 seconds to reduce.
These small 1 megapixel photos only take a few seconds to upload to the web.
