Call Of Roma II (as of 2022 D Apr 27)

Introduction

This information about Call Of Roma II was up-to-date as of 2018. The game has changed little since then. However the documents in the Sources below were never proofed word-by-word. Use this information accordingly. There was a website named "Caesary Galaxy" but it has temporarily been removed from the web. Note that the Bank of Caesary has been defunct for years.

Playing Call Of Roma

Call Of Roma (formerly Caesary) is a very old computerized war game. The author has written a book titled "Politics Plato" (Source 1) that describes many aspects of the game and some strategy, tactics and secrets about how to play the game. A set of approximately 100 Guides to Playing CallOfRoma has also been prepared. These are slightly old as they were written in about 2018. One difficulty, Screen-Scraping, was encounted and has been addressed below.

Screen-Scraping of Text

In many cases, one might wish to be able to copy-n-paste text from the screen in order to save it as text. But in Call Of Roma, this is very difficult because the text is not in "text boxes". For example, in the following situations:

SITUATIONS
saving the results of an expensive "spy run" (that disclosed locations of an opponent's cities)
saving the list of members of a league (see images immediately below)
saving an email
saving what a player wrote in world chat or league chat
pasting on-screen text into Google Translate

The solution for all of these situations is found in Source 8 entitled Capture2Text (as shown above). The text on the screen was so small that many spelling errors occurred. As can be seen, no attempt is made by this app to align the text; the alignment must be done by the user. A more accurate result would be obtained if the screen were enlarged. Fortunately, the numbers seem to be captured accurately. The actual text captured is available in Source 8. Attempts were unsuccessful trying to capture the building levels (numbers) from a city layout resulting from sending speculatores to spy on a city.

This app works similarly to Copy-n-Paste or LightShot's screen Capture, except that a portion of the screen is highlighted by the user, then the Capture2Text app performs an OCR conversion to text into a text box where it can be editted by the user. The user must select a "Hot Key" that instigates the process. (I use Windows Key+Z.) Here are the exact steps to be followed to use Capture2Text:

To Use Capture2Text by D@CC 1. Position the cursor at the top left corner of the rectangle containing the text to capture. 2. Then, while holding down the left-mouse key: Click Logo-Z to begin the capture process. The Logo key is the "Windoze" key (usually to the left of the Left-Alt key) 3. Use the mouse cursor to set the bottom right corner of the rectangle . . . . 4. Do a Left Mouse Click. 5. The captured text will appear in an edit box. (This might take a few seconds.) 6. Click on Font and select the "Contour" font (which is a fixed width font) 7. Edit, then Copy-n-Paste the text elsewhere.

This Capture2Text app can certainly be used in situations other than CallOfRoma.
