GOULD, Earle F.

Earle F. Gould, 93, of East Hartford and Lebanon, passed away peacefully on Wednesday (January 19, 2011) at Hartford Hospital after a brief illness.

He was the beloved husband of Evelyn (Bengtson) Gould for 68 years. Earle was born August 18th, 1917 in New Haven, son of the late Arthur I. and Charlotte (Johnson) Gould. Earle and Evelyn were married on November 11, 1942 at St. John's Episcopal Church in East Hartford.

He graduated from Albert I. Prince Technical School, formally the Hartford Trade School. He was a veteran of WWII and served in the Army in the South East Asia Command Headquarters in the China-Burma-India area, namely Karachi, Pakistan (India) and Kandy Sri Lanka (Ceylon). Earle was a 9th generation grandson of William Leete who was Governor of the Colony of New Haven, 1661-1665, and Governor of the Colony of Connecticut, 1676-1683. He was a member of the Leete Family Association.

He was the Assistant Factory Manager at the Silver Lane Pickle Company in East Hartford which was founded by his grandfather Frank Gould in 1888. He retired after 35 years from Hamilton Standard and Pratt & Whitney of the United Aircraft Corporation. At this point in his life he had donated more than 10 gallons of blood to the American Red Cross. Earle was a voracious reader and an enthusiastic fan of the Boston Red Sox and UCONN Women's & Men's basketball teams. He was a longtime member of St. John's Episcopal Church serving on the vestry, president of the St. John's Men's Club, a member of the choir and as a sexton. Earle was a caring and loving husband, father and grandfather. He had a wonderful sense of humor, many great talents and was a friend to all.

In addition to his devoted wife Evelyn, he is survived by his loving family; his son, Jeffrey Gould and his wife Jeanne Runewicz of MA; his daughter Karen Ward and her husband Timothy of CT; his granddaughters Gabrielle and Angelline Gould of MA; his half sisters Jean Hopkins of FL and Ada May Parmelee of CT; his half brother Robert Gould of FL and many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters, Marjorie C. Linsay and Dorothy C. Sherman; his brother, A. Harvey Gould; his half brother Howard Gould.

A celebration of life service will be held Saturday (January 22nd) at the Newkirk & Whitney Funeral Home, 318 Burnside Ave., East Hartford at 3 p.m. Calling hours will be Saturday (January 22nd) at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be private at the family plot in Center Cemetery, East Hartford at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. John's Episcopal Church, 12 Rector Street, East Hartford, CT. 06108; AmeriCares, 88 Hamilton Ave., Stamford, CT 06902 or a charity of the donor's choice.
