Obituary

John R. Barber; "Jack" Barber, W1PRT, passed away on January 8, 2014. Born April 21, 1921 in Hartford, Conn., he leaves behind his daughters, Janine Barber and Cindi Paris of Federal Way, a son-in-law, 2 grandsons, John C. Paris and W. David Paris of Bellevue, and 3 (super) great-grandchildren: Maya, Madison, and Kai Paris, all of Bellevue. Jack Barber leaves a brother, James T. Barber, a sister-in-law, Marilyn Barber, and a nephew, W. "Bill" Barber, all of Florida.

He was predeceased by his wife of 70 years, Ruth Simmons Barber. He served in the Army/Air Force during World War II and the Korean War. He was a Shriner, a Mason, a member of the Old Time Fiddlers and a past Barbershopper. Jack and Ruth were members of Brown's Point United Methodist Church in Tacoma. He was an avid musician and "Ham radio" operator. A graduate of Trinity College in Hartford, he and Ruth travelled the world, both before and during their years as travel agency owners in Connecticut. They moved to Panorama City in Lacey in the 1980's, and lived out their final years in Federal Way with their family. Mills & Mills Funeral Home in Tumwater will handle the arrangements. The memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on February 8, 2014 at Brown's Point Methodist Church, Please sign the guest book!
